WOLVES SET TO TRY TO SIGN BENFICA STAR SILVA

English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers are looking to add some spice to their fine form at the moment by trying to make a comprehensive list of the players they want to sign ahead of next season. According to a report from Jeunes Footeux, Wanderers have an eye on the Benfica star as Francisco Trincao’s struggles at Molineux continue.

Trincao is on a season-long loan from Barcelona, and Wolves have the choice to make his move permanent at the end of the season for around £25 million (Sky Sports). As things currently stand, Wolves would be wrong to exercise that option. Unfortunately, Trincao’s move isn’t working out. He is still having difficulty impacting games. And he’s scored just one goal all season, which came all the way back in August.

Jeunes Footeux report Wolves are unlikely to sign Trincao, and are now looking at Silva. He has been in sizzling form over in the Portuguese league this season. He’s scored 11 goals and made 17 assists. Those are numbers any of the current Wolves forwards could only dream of right now.
The bad news is that Benfica would want a whopping £42 million for the 28-year-old. The would mean the club breaking their transfer record. Rafa Silva would be a brilliant signing for Wolves, but £42 million is far too much to pay. Silva is a quality player, and is having a particularly brilliant season with Benfica.
Infobae ran a feature on him last year, and stated that commentators have likened him to Raheem Sterling. He’s also drawn comparisons to Spanish legend Andres Iniesta. £42 million is a huge price tag for a player who will be turning 29 in a couple of months.
Paying that amount would leave no room for Wolves to make any money on the player in the future. Benfica are well within their rights to demand such an amount given his importance to the team. But Wolves need to steer clear if they won’t come down significantly from that price.
